Were you able to power the EMGs with the same battery(ies?) as the preamp?

yes. audere leans toward one 9v in that situation. the ax has used the same battery since march and seems to still have plenty of juice available --- there's an indicator light --- although i'm not playing that ax exclusively.

Since EMG itself always recommended 18v to power their pickups when paired with a preamp, I've been using that config with all my basses. And FWIW Audere preamps, being powered by 9v or 18v, will sound about the same in almost every situation.
