adding a neck J to my ATK305, going passive?

finally did it.
Sound!

I tried to play the little lick the same way each time. eh. not the best playing i know. i'm still really bad at recording.
1- Neck pup solo
2- Neck w/ single bridge coil
3- Neck w/ humbucker

Of course, I can just use the bridge pup too but those are just the regular ol' ATK sounds.

It sounds different from the 750. I think a lot of that comes from the passive wiring. I find I MUCH prefer the passive sound. I like the "jazz" setting the most- number 2 on the clip. It's super heavy and punchy, with a surprising top end sheen (500K pots). I do find it slaps a little better now too. Again, the passive sound gives it a whole new character. The preamp just kind of got in the way of it's tone. Oh, and with the new pickup, I NEVER need to EQ in more bass. It sounds as heavy as it feels. I was playing "War Pigs" with my cover band today- felt right at home with my bass.

Having played with it for a few weeks, run a bunch of practices and a few gigs with it- I do like it, and I get a kick out of having a bass that no one else in the world has. :D

I basically left the switch wiring intact (from the ATK pickup to the switch). It's not a powered design- it's the same essential idea as the pickup selector switch in a stratocaster. One of the settings has a filter built in on it, which I believe is just an RC circuit to cut the highs on one of the single coil settings. I took the hot wire off the switch assembly and put it to a volume pot. Nothing too complex...

Still haven't made a pickguard...someday.
