Mesa AZ.
O.K, so here it goes. I am in the market for a new bass rig.
Main reason? I want lighter cabs that deliver the goods.

I play in cover bands and am a weekend warrior. My price range is about 3k

Here is what I have....

Schroeder 1210

Pluses..... I use this cab the most because of the size and weight. I use it for almost all band practices and gigs. It has enough throw for me to hear myself in most situations.

cons... This cab does not have the cleanest most desirable sound.

Ampeg BXT 4x10 HLF

pluses... (Yes, the Wooten/Bailey cab) This cab delivers the goods for every situation. It has a rich deep sound and takes whatever I throw at it. It is loud and clear

cons... it weights 122 lbs. and I do not like taking it anywhere unless I absolutely have too.

Eden 6x10 cab

plusses... massive sound, tons of the tone I love it.

cons....This cab is brand new and has been sitting in my spare bedroom for 2 years. I have only had one occasion to use it. it is heavy and cumbersome. I just want to get
rid of it. My friends say to keep it around for the occasional "big gig". They may be right and they do come along once in a while, however, it just seems like such a waste.

Now to the heads.

My trusty 12 year old SWR SM-500.

This is the first quality amp I ever purchased. It has never given my problems. It sounds good with all the above mentioned cabs and I am always able to dial in a good sound with it because I know it so well.

Eden Navigator pre with QSC amp. Also an awesome head that I can always dial in a good tone with ( a little more challenging with my Schroeder cab).

To sum it up, I want a light weight rig that sounds most pleasant. I don't want weight or size to be a factor in my decision to use it.

I am open all criticism, suggestions and bashings.

Please speak from practical experience

thank you.

I can only speak from personal experience, but after having various configurations of 2x10, 1x15 and 4x10 (mostly SWR WorkingPro stuff) , 2 or 3 different heads, etc., I sold all of it and bought a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and a Uber 410.
Best rig I have ever owned, and more headroom then I have use for. Roughly 70 lbs for the cab, but I can pick it up by myself if necessary, and it has built-in casters. The head is like 4 lbs, I think. Sounds phenomenal. I play weekends like you, and have yet to come up short on volume. This amp/cab combination is well worth looking into, IMHO.

I am interested in checking out the GB stuff. I think I am leaning towards a light weight 4x10, 2x12 or a 3x10 (epifani). I would like to keep it under 60 lbs. with wheels. Oh the joy of getting older. I lugged around a Goliath 6x10 for years.

Avatar TB153 full range cab (nEarful concept-65 lbs and as loud as your 410, prolly deeper) with micro head of choice to pump 500 watts at 4 Ohms. Done. Zero tonal or volume compromise IMHO and a wad of Ben Franklins left over.

^This if the size and weight meet your criteria.

Or else you can look into the Thunderchild 112's if you want even more lightweight and portability.

Im also in a coverband and a weekend warrior, but I went with the MB210 combo because my size limitations are VERY VERY compact.

Or the barefaced stuff seems to also fit the bill with your 3k pricerange.

Weekend warrior also, but maybe not as high-end… I don’t even know what I’d do with $3k, haha…

but to me, light means “light”, and if I can’t pick it up with one hand easily, it may as well be heavy.

Shopping wisely (okay, some luck) my new rig comes to $684- actual street price $900.

GK MB500 amp (3.75 lbs), and a 4-ohm GK 212MBE(34 lbs)... That’ll be my gig rig when the head comes in, which is 100 watts more than I’m running now, and I don’t even need that.

Guitarist used to frustrate me- now it’s just a matter of doing what I have to do.

Feels kinda good.

:)

Well, I ordered a GB Neo x212T . It seems like a good replacement for both my Schroeder and Ampeg cab. I like everything about it. This is the first time I have purchased a cab on the net. I am hoping my SWR SM-500 or Eden WP 100/QSC setup will sound good with it. If not than I guess I'll give the Shuttle a try. Thanks for all the replies.

The cab is here! The cab is here! I know, no pics no cab. I will post some tomorrow. So far it is what I expected. I have a jam this weekend (the only true measure). So far it sounds really good with my Eden/QSC head (Fender Jazz). :hyper:
