For me delay is for "dimension".
An alternative for reverb.
So I use it in mellower slower parts (I play metal).
I always was of the opinion that reverb sucks the life out of a bass.
I love reverb on guitar a lot though.
I am coming around a bit on that opinion.
I have a Line6 Verbzilla which I purchased for my guitar, but occasionally play around with on bass.
But in the band, I prefer a delay pedal for dimension and to keep my presence.
However, since I am on TalkBass I heard some great examples of bassists using reverb.
