Aged Pearl or Tortoise?

just personal preferences....I don't care for pearl, but tolerate it from time to time. For me, tortoise always gets the vote in these comparisons.

Olympic white i assume?.....aged pearl looks good with that color of white. I installed regular white but have an aged pearl pg that does actually match better, but it matches the body better than the inlays...cant decide ugh!

Both look great, but unless the trim is really bad, I'd stick with the aged pearl. I love white on white, too.

i'm actually a huge fan of pearl on white. Lakland does that a lot and i love it.

Speaking of screws, where is the fit issue? If it's between the guard snd control plate, you can address that without too much problem. I've done it to plenty MIM j basses and it is not too difficult or time consuming.
Take the screws out of the control plate and adjust it until you get the fit you are after. This may require a bit of drum sanding in the control cavity, but usually does not. Once you see where the screws need to go, you can fill the existing holes with toothpicks and two part epoxy. Make sure to leave just enough glue to form a small dome above the hole. Once everything is fully cured, shave the dome flush with the finish. The idea is to create a flat surface where you can accurately center punch for new pilot holes. Line up you guard and plate and punch either hole closest to the guard, then drill a pilot hole and run the screw down while holding the plate where you want it. Once it's snug, do the other hole next to the guard the same way. Once that's done, do your last hole and screw and do a final tightening of all your screws.
As for color choice? I chose MOTS, but only because I'm allergic to tort.

Tort looks better on the body - gives a nice contrast.

But the pearl picks up the block inlays and pearl knobs. My first choice would probably be MoP to better match the blocks & knobs. Aged is 2nd. Tort is 3rd.

There are a few comments on the aged Pearl vs the Mother of Pearl which would match the blocks. I did this on purpose, because I wanted something in the same color family but with a little more warmth and contrast. Also the Pearl one is cut pretty good, and it fits. It's not extremely cleanly cut like the Fender. I would have sent it back, but then I'd just be gambling on another one.

I'm still keeping the tortoise guard!

I've got almost the same bass, I kept the tort on mine because of the very snug fit. Mine seems to be more brown than red tort compared to yours though. I've considered getting a black one.

I got this WD pick guard, because I've always thought white on white was sharp. This one isn't cut as precisely as the original tortoise. I'm on the fence about keeping it. What do y'all think?

The tort has more contrast, but I do like the way the aged pearl looks with that neck. I'd probably keep the aged pearl, but I have a thing for white on white basses anyhow.

Well, since it has a RW FB I'd go with Torty-Tort.

However, if this bass had a maple FB I'd have to go with the aged pearl.

I wanted a white one as soon as I realized they made these in white. I'm not a fan of the hot rod red or the matching headstock. I'd rather have the American PJ like yours, but the jazz is rad too.
