AGF Cotten

Howdy! Newbie here, but once spent a lot of time moderating over on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. Lots of friendly, helpful people there, too! I'm nearing retirement in my only career job, that as a music pastor. I have a music education degree, handy since I had to learn a good bit about most every instrument, and a master's degree in voice and conducting. In my work I've directed everything from a "choir" for 3-yr. old ankle biters to orchestras with mass choirs. I love it, especially when I get to play or teach acoustic guitar!

In recent years, though, I've been playing more bass guitar, especially with a 250-member men's choir of other church music leaders here in Georgia, USA. We use a rhythm section and a brass group of about 30 players, so I get the best seat in the house, right up close to the conductor between the piano and drums. Last night, I had a ride cymbal within arms reach in front of me, French horns to my right, and lead Bb trumpet close enough behind me to use the back of my head as a furry mute. In fact he might have - my ears haven't been the same since!

With an acoustic guitar group and praise band, I once played a Fender acoustic bass, plugged in, of course. Snapped it's headstock entirely in two one day while loading up. It's not pretty after the repair, but it still plays. Lately I've played an old Peavey T-40 bass, and am in the process of picking up a nice 5-string from a nice fellow here. Looking forward to hanging out here with you guys! Wait. I'm from Georgia. Make that "y'all."
