Aggressive, Middy Jazz Bass Replacement Pickups

Hey all.

I traded for a 2008 American Standard Jazz bass a couple weeks ago and have been loving the hell out of it. However, I would like to change the pickups as I find the stocks to be kinda bleh. I am very fond of really aggressive midrangey tones and am looking for a pickup that will satisfy this naturally. Everyone at my college seems to be praising Nordstrand pickups, and in looking at their lineup I found their description of the "nj4se" pickups to be right up my alley ("more pronounced lower midrange", "good “bark” and “heft.”). With that said however, I don't want to spend money on new pickups without getting some dissenting opinions, and I'm really interested to hear what people vouch for. So, what are your favourite jazz bass replacement pickups and why?

Thanks in advance for all the responses.

I haven't tried the NJ4se, though I had a set of the standard single coil NJ4 and they were very nice vintage styled pickups.

A very good and less expensive alternative for J pickups with a strong midrange is the Dimarzio Model J set. I was initially turned off by them when I heard that they used ceramic magnets, but I picked up a set used a few years ago after hearing some really good sound samples. I dig their character.... With the right setup they are growl city.

I have my bridge PU wired in series for more low mids & fatness and my neck PU wired in parallel for depth with clarity.
