I have a 2002 MIJ 70's RI body in Olympic White. Looks nice, but it's way to white looking. I don't want to relic it, but I wouldn't mind a little "dingyness" to it...

What's the best way to give it some age?

I play it out on average once a month, but it's never in a smoking environment. It's hardly ever in the case when not in use.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Columbus. I checked out your website, and you do really nice work. I'll save it for future reference.

Like I said, I don't really want to relic it. Just wanted to take the brightness from the white just a tad. It's happening now, just a slow process... thinking about putting the body in a tanning bed

take up heavy smoking, like a 3 pack a day habit. Keep your bass with you. Should do the trick.

What some people do to yellow it down a little, is to lay the body on a sheet of aluminum foil and leave it out all day in direct sunlight. Then flip it over and leave it out again the next day.

'Course, you'll have to wait til the weather gets nice again.

Sounds like UV really does work then... so technically the tanning bed should work?

Wrong time of the year for outside "tanning" around here though, and probably not best for a barbeque either :eyebrow: ....

Trying to not pick up smoking, although I'll sneak some in from time to time, and all bars around here are no-smoking... so that's not gonna work :p

Imagine the looks you'll get at the tanning salon when you show up with your bass.

Too bad. Too many players try to do the whole 'relic' thing with their instruments, but forget that in order to do it right, the amp, and, most importantly, the player needs to have that authentic 'relic' look, too. Rule of thumb: If your bass looks like it's 50 years old, then you need to look at least 65, and your amp needs to look at least 40 years old.

Aw, everyone has that one buddy that smokes alot in his car...you know the guy who never cleans his car and has that permenant haze on the inside of the windows. That would be the perfect place to leave that body for like a week or two.

We could strap the bass on the back of this Engineer I work with; he smokes 3 packs here at the office each day!
