On Roundwounds spray some WD-40 on a cloth and wipe down the strings.

Goodbye highs.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WD-40 is an incredible enemy of ANY FINISHED WOOD or other painted surface. A little goes a log way. I've seen wood that was completely un-finishable due to WD 40 exposure. use it on your farm machinery, outdoor locks, but nowhere near any musical equipment!!!

Lanolin not only deadens strings but it tenderizes your stony blistered fingertips while you play, so I just bring my new strings to the petting zoo and rub them on a sheep. BEFORE I put them on the bass of course.

Or - for the poor among us - Roadworn strings. These are not killed string by string individually with individual marks. Their death was manufactured on an assembly line.

I can't wait to try the sheep method. But until then, I stand by my recommendation from a previous thread on this topic, to draw new strings slowly through a soiled baby diaper. Preferably, a formula fed baby. I find that breast fed baby poo cuts too much mids.

I season my strings in a carbon steel wok at 500 degrees with fresh leeks. You cook the leeks black over the strings, throw em out, wipe the strings down and cool. Perfectly seasoned strings you'll never go back
