Aguilar DB 751 or AG Preamp pedal?

Hey crew,

Was wondering if any boutique builders had made a preamp pedal based on a different Aguilar circuit other than the TH line.

I had a 751 for a while and actually really liked it as a clean low volume amp, so missing the power section shouldn't be any drama for the 'tone' I' after.

Also, I already have modelers that can fo the thing. I'm more curious about analogue devices.

Not a pedal, not cheap, and not easy to find, but the Aguilar DB659 is/was the exact preamp section of the DB750/751.

The "ultimate" Aguilar rig in earlier days was the DB659 or DB680 into a DB728 400 watt all-tube power amp.

Dang, Down Under is a LONG Hike, but Ive got this pup Ive been considering putting on the block!! Houston though is within meet distance!! LOL!!!

I found a schematic for the DB750, it's an interesting one. If you leave out the FX loop it goes down to 3 tubes, which is still a bit large for a pedal, but doable if you're okay with it going big. It could be simplified down further to a two-tube preamp pedal, and even a single-tube preamp if you want, but at that point it's basically an Alembic F-2B with a slightly different tonestack.

When I owned a DB751 I ran it with such low gain I really think you could replace the tubes with mosfets just to get the size down and I'd still love the sound.

Let me know if that's on the cards? I can email or dm if that's easier

Also cool history regarding the alembic connection.

I'm definitely not the right person for the job if you're looking for MOSFETs, tube preamps are kind of my thing. If you're just looking for a clean tube version your best bet would be to either get an F-2B (or similar, I make a pretty good one) or to try dropping the last tube and run it as a dual-tube preamp, in which case it would probably fit in a 4.7 in x 3.7 in x 1.34 in (119 mm x 94 mm x 34 mm) enclosure.
