Aguilar DB212 Midrange

This has been helpful. I am coming from a recent history of in-ear-monitor with enough stage-monitor (lows) to vibrate my pants leg to make it "feel" real. I've played through an Ampeg 810/SVT3Pro combination and gotten a big smiley-eq tone, which seems to go well for smooth-jazz/slap funk but...

...for a standards jazz/R&B/blues "round sound" I'm shooting for something a little closer to dsanders' tones on his band link (yeah, I know it's produced--but that's closer to the sound I'm hoping for.) I want to avoid giving the G-string enough honking mids to stray into the guitar freqs. It needs enough lows to stay in the big fat round Bass family. (It's just the skinny kid in the Bass family. ..and a bright one at that!)

As the stage volume increases, I have heard the midrange (400-600Hz) start to take over the deep lows (on 410's) and I find myself adjusting more than I like.

It sounds like the DB's may bring the low-end up while keeping enough midrange throat to balance with the rest of the band. Does this rate with your (collective) experience?

IMO/IME the DB cabs sits very nice in the mix, and my favourite is the DB410. Actualy I find the 212 a little "thin" compared to the 410. IMO the DB212 is rather thight for a 212, while the GS212 don`t cut through at all.

How do the SLs compare to the rest of the Aggy line?

As I said, I never owned other Aggie 12's. However, based on the 410's and 115's I would say the SL112 has a nice even tone. In a not-so-loud band setting it remains well defined with even mids, surprising lows for such a small cab, also with nice treble. Having a single woofer and rated at 250 Watts, it is not enough for a really loud band (that is not the point in having one, anyway). But, I just had rehearsals and some studio work with a rock trio (drum - bass - guitar) and it was perfect.
It's also VERY light, making an almost ridiculous combination with the TH500 head I now carry around in my gigbag

I am really waiting for my second SL112! I will try the TH500 + two SL112's combinations in a loud band setting and let you guys know how it works out.

If you can wait some weeks, I will do some review videos for the Hungarian Aggie dealer and will demo the SL112. If they have other 112's, I will make a comparison.

That head IMO likes a cab with a tight low end and plenty of mid voice, especially with a J type instrument with roundwounds (that is a punchy J... I've only played one)

I think the DB's would work great for you, but I would even more highly recommend the new Bergantino HD410. That is the soon to be released update of the HS410, and that is a very nice match with a DB750 (never heard the 751, but I assume the general voicing is similar). The HS410 is kind of a more even but still mid present DB.

Just a though! However, any of the DB's should sound really nice with that head. I think the new Berg HS212 might be too much of a good thing with that head (I have not heard one, but it is based on the discontinued HT112ER) and that cab has a big low end and a bit of a hole in the upper mids.

I have an HT 112ER, I don't find that it has a hole in the upper mids. I have the Epifani 501, so that may have something to do with it. I don't find the cab lacking in any way.
