Aguilar DB750 or AG500SC w/ tube DI

What do you need the rigs to do for you. and what speaker setup are you using?

Im using two DB112's. Basically my dilemma is... I'm coming from an ampeg v4 and afraid that the ag500 wont be warm enough. Eventhough, i've played out of both and liked the db750 better. I kinda feel like I didn't spend enough time with the ag500 and I love its size and weight. Volume is not really an issue. I'm positive the ag500 is plenty loud enough.

Ahh, Well, IMO aguilar is brighter than ampeg in general. To get that "warmness" ala ampeg, I throw a compressor in front, when I need that SVT thump from time to time.

But, both are great amps, If you liked the db750, you should also try a 751, the midrange is a bit higher so its a tidge more nasally. The 750, has a mid range at 400hz while the 751 is at 750hz.

The 750, is a bit noisier than the 751 though. it had a redundant 12au7 in the pre amp that has since been pulled from the design.

With all that in mind to help you out a bit, I would personally always choose some amount of tubage over ss. But you really cant go wrong with either amp. I hope this helps a little I know Im going on mild tangents here but I think all the points are good to know!:D

I tried a DB900 with an AG500 and didn't find that it changed up my overall sound all that much compared to just using the AG500. Tube DIs are great, but the best ones are subtle. If you want to 750 sound, get the 750. A good cheaper lighter alternate is the Mesa M-Pulse 600 or Big Block 750/Titan.
