Aguilar DB751 or Thunderfunk TFB800-B2?

Well, if you don't want the TH and a power amp (which would be a killer rig. All connected in an easy to carry SKB 4 space), I would seriously try to find a Thunderfunk to try out.

I understand what people say when they describe the 750/751. They are killer heads. Great sound. But, I find that having the EQ of the Thunderfunk, allows me to get much closer to what I am looking for in various venues. Plus, lots of times, especially at festivals where you have to setup quick and start playing, having the Timbre and Enhance adjustment is really nice. My 750A and 550B are such great heads, I couldn't see being without them. Granted, I do play a lot of gigs with my Monique by Jule, but I will never part with my Thunderfunks!

It's a tough call. Both heads are great, you will have to compare everything (weight, cost, adaptability etc...) and make the best decision based on those factors.

I have had 3 db750s and 1 db751. Did the tube swaps too. Great heads why i kept trying again. Too heavy and limited in their tone shaping. I went two years ago and got a 800b2 and its the first head that just works for any venue. Through my berg stack of hs210 and hs410 at 2.7 ohms it slams with heft for outdoor festivle gigs too on par with the db750/1 but with slightly clearer quicker tone and tighter bottom.

When you want the tube sound, get a tube amp like an svt. The db is very similar to lugging around a svt ime. I would go tube for better tone dynamics than the db if weight was not a factor.

i must add a note.

talking of the tfunk only, i hadn't the privilege to use a db 751.

my tfunk 550 is such a versatile amp, and it may be a two knobs amp for may folks. those enhance and timbre controls do really substitute a full eq section for the majority of occasions. for particular problems the para eq comes in handy.

one thing that surpises me is that nobody talks about the tfunk DI. In my opinion one of the very best. it sends to the board or DAW a super organic hefty tone, unsurpassed.

I confess that in some rooms I struggled to have a perfect tone, maybe because i failed to tweak to solve problematic acoustics, but every time the amp was allowed to push some air, like on outdoor gigs, it has showed a tridimensional, organic tone that really makes heads turn.

Went to a blues Jam last week the house rig was a TFunk 550 paired with SWR 4x10 cab. Always two guitars and loud drummers,Keys etc. Big room with no FOH for the TF. Basses played included Bongo5 (mine) Stingray,Lakland 5, 74p , a new Jazz and a nice old Passive Ibanez. I was STUNNED ...... volume, punch, clarity, tone, tight bottom on every bass and nobody changed any settings! Never heard any amp like this and I have heard a lot. I found a used TF550 and it is headed my way and I will not be using PA support anymore (unless a huge room) as not to mess with this incredible amp Wow.

Not played the TF but I've heard them on recordings and there's no way I'd consider them in the same tonal family. Thunderfunk reminds me more of amps like Eden, which I hate, while Aguilar reminds me more of Ampeg, which I love.
