Double Bass Aguilar Tone Hammer 500

OK Folks,

I'm playing an outdoor jazz festival in Chesterfield MO. The backline will most likely be an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 any suggestions on using the amp would be appreciated. I'll be using an Ehrlund EAP into my trusty Headway EDB-2. I've only heard positive things about this amp from others.

I played a jazz festival last weekend where I performed on four stages. Each had a different rig, one Eden, two Aguilar and
one GK. All 4-10 cabs. I brought my EA Doubler just in case and ended up using it in all four situations. I didn't try the GK because I'm familiar with what it does, but did try the others. The Doubler is so much punchier and my sound was easily dialed in.

IMHO, the Tone Hammer 500 is "okay" with the EAP and preamp. I have tried that combination (well, almost: TH350, which sounds identical, with less power), and, while it is workable, it certainly to my ear seemed a little un-punchy. Whatever that is. The amp felt well-behaved with the EAP, but then again, so does every amp with a reasonable flat frequency response (with centered tone controls), but it was just a tad bit "tame". I AB'd it against both the WW MI100-8, and my Lehre FlatB90, and both are considerably (much) more punchy. I don't know, I just wasn't so blown away by the Tone Hammer as the general consensus might suggest.

But- if Markbass is any better, I doubt, without knowing.

I actually ordered a Markbass Big Bang from GC and although I liked it, I didn't love it so I sent it back. After reading both your comments and Eric' s I'll just put the Headway EDB-2 into the effects look of the Markbass and totally bypass the EQ section. Sidecar if you
owned an Elin you'd have each one of the boutique DSPS amp built for DB. :D

Thanks for the info Eric,
I've always found either of my Walter Woods amps to sound better than almost anything else I've tried, so I can see why you would wan't to take your own head. I always put my Headway EDB-2 in the car, because it can solve a whole myriad of issues with other amps.
I'd love to try a Doubler but out here in St. Louis, no one carries them, and as far as I can tell no one owns one.

Ric,

I have indeed for a while tried to get a hold of an ELIN, but that was a fruitless endeavour, and I guess it will be forever, as they virtually never show up anywhere. For the record, te Lehre has a conventional power supply and just happens to be tiny and lightweight. With the WW in my claws, I admit I am not using it so much at the moment. However, I am never going to get rid of it again.
