In fine working condition, last of the Made in England Trace Elliot line. 250 beastly watts into 4 ohms, this head has been equal to any gig, any venue.
Super-flexible/adaptable eq and sound shaping attributes, 12AX7 tube, blendable with solid-state. 2-band, functional compression, famous preshapes toggles.
Comes with the SMX manual on dvd. I'll ship- on your dime, but I'll pack it to withstand Samsonite Gorilla auditions.

Trade ideas... need a cab for a practice space, hpf/preamp pedal, fretless bass (or just a fretless, unlined neck).

Not tring to bust balls but isn't this a pre amp with no power amp?
The front of this amp and TE calls is out as a pre only.

This is a killer amp. Do not let the wattage rating fool you, it is much louder than many modern amps rated for twice the wattage. Trace rated their amps very conservatively.
Slapper's delight and also one of the pre-set selectable eq curves is mean as can be with a P bass and a pick for playing rock.

FYI British Audio is a great resource for Trace replacement parts too.

Many of the older UK Trace heads have a note printed on the front panel identifying the type of preamp used. It does in fact employ a 250w power section (it's an AH250SMX, with the GP12SMX preamp).
I understand that can be confusing...

BTW, after having had a 350 SMX I can say that these amps seem to put out a lot more power than other amps with the same adverised output.
In other words, it will play louder than most 250 watt amps.
