Strangely, I'm on a real big prog and stoner kick right now. I'd say they are my fav. genres. What BANDS are you burning yourself out on.

Im burning out on Prog: Yes , ELP, Marillion, Dream Theater,Queensryche, Porcupine tree, Camel,Magma,Caravan, Brian Eno, Arc, Mythos,Any side projects the members of Dream Theater did.

Stoner: Monster Magnet, Comets on Fire, Electric Wizard, High on Fire, QOTSA, Nebula, Fu Manchu, Blue Cheer, and Mastadon.

I listen to alot of music!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Alot of the bands you guys suggested were stuff I already knew( all the classic rock stuff and a few others) but there were a good bit I didnt know about as well. Thanks for your suggestions.

Also , Oingo Boingo is brilliant, Thank you Matt Till.

And......Anyone know if the Jimmy Chamberlain or Billy Talbot albums are worth getting???

Gotta give it up for the Boingo.

I'm on a real kick, but I noticed your list of burn outs didn't include King Crimson. I love them because every album is different, so it's kinda hard to burn out on them.

Also, looking at your list: You have good taste in music. :D

King Crimson is a band I just cant seem to burn out on.

Their Stoner equivelant for me is Clutch, I cant seem to get tired of Clutch either.

Really with Prog, im more tired of the endless wanking. I do know of a few prog bands that dont wank as much.

Not to derail this thread too much, but are there any modern(ish) prog acts that don't wank. The only example I can think of is Opeth. Because I love good prog, and King Crimson's modern prog is fantastic, but I don't know any other bands that do the prog minus huge solos.

I don't know how you would define prog then, for me, the wank is what makes it prog.

I don't know Opeth or King Crimson (aside from 2 songs, and an album I skimmed through and left). The only bands that spring to mind are Mars Volta or Gorch Fock (though they're more metal w/ a trombone). There's also is(was?) a local Providence band, Invalid Link Removed , that cites Prog as a big influence. Similarly, Invalid Link Removed , are apparently big fans of King Crimson.

If you want experimental music that isn't noise, then I can suggest Parts & Labor and Tyondai Braxton/Battles.
