Double Bass Ahmad Jamal...

So what is Ahmad like as a person, anyone know? I mean, from his playing you would expect a kind of soft-spoken but firm and confident kind of guy.

I've met him a couple of times and he was gracious, as his stage personna would lead you to expect, but don't know him personally.

I can say that his bassist of 30 years refers to him as "Mr. Jamal", which says something about each of them, I think.

Mr. Jamals name came up in one of the ensembles I am in, and the keyboard player expressed an interest in tackling two of his tunes.

Poinciana and Saturday Morning...I found a few links to charts of the former, but didn't see A.J.'s arrangement. The latter I found nothing except the piano transcription.

Anyone have any idea where charts for these can be found?

Poinciana is in iReal(just chords, no melody) and wouldn't be surprised if in one of the Real Book volumes. Not sure on Saturday Morning.

Israel Crosby’s work with Jamal is so musical . His walking bass melodic sense is terrific ! I think he played a Kay bass , but not 100% sure about that.
Regardless , he rightfully deserves a proud place in Jazz bass history
