Air Fryer

Chicken is also a little tricky to get right the first time. Of course, it depends on the size of the piece, or the thickness of the breast...like cooking on a grill you'll get there by trial and error.

Basically everything is prone to drying out if you leave it cooking too long. But when you do get it right, it's good.

If you have trouble cooking chicken (or anything else) to the correct doneness, get a good quality instant read digital thermometer. I started using one years ago and it changed my life. It's difficult to know when something is done by estimation, but the thermometer takes all the guesswork out of it.

I like the Thermopop made by Thermoworks. Incredibly easy to use, and I believe it's around $30.

My brother has this one and literally uses it every day. His son and him actually. You'd have to know my brother to know how amazed I am that it has lasted for a bit over a year as he is notoriously hard on appliances and isn't the most fastidious person on the planet when it comes to cleaning . . .

They both swear by it. Chicken wings, fries, tater tots, gut grenades ( the son ). They say it does them all very well.

Full disclosure, I've not sampled any of it or seen any of it. I've just heard him go on and on about it :)

More info on this delicious sounding treat please.
Thank you.

It's not as good as you might think haha

A bachelors / college students best friend.

Frozen burritos. My go to was beef, bean and green chili with sour cream and Tabasco. Hence, gut grenade. Sooo not good for you but such a guilty, low buck pleasure. Under two bucks for 8 of them back in the day :D It was a nice break from Top Ramen ( still love that too ) and tuna. :D

Deep fried was particularly good with the gut grenades but usually I just nuked 'em.

I've got one. Don't remember the make off hand, but it works well enough for tater tots or fish sticks. Haven't really tried anything more complex, though I was given a cookbook all about air frying for Christmas last year.

Having fun with ours so far. I was a bit put off at first, because I couldn't get crispy french fries, but I finally figured out that you should soak them in cold water before frying.

Cheese toast is really good!
Only thing is the cheese doesn't really stick to the toast, since it's not heated from the bottom.

Chicken is crispy, which was the main reason I bought it.

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a bigger combo unit, it's a PITA making those small one-person serving sizes when you're feeding more than one person.

Wow, so I'm the only person using one that bothers to post about it?

I'm not much of a cook or recipe-sharer, but was hoping for that on here.

We've been using Emeril's method for frying bacon & it's the best damn bacon I've EVER had!

Had the air-fryer about a month now & TBH I looked & looked for a larger one after the second week, but gave up. They almost all have bad reviews, noisy, or smell like burning plastic when they're operating, et al.
I think we got lucky that this one is great, but it's a brand I've never heard of ModernHome. They are available on Amazon.

I've only just discovered the nice side-effect of using the air-fryer frequently is that it's nearly put me off of fast-food. I had a Wendy's Double the other day & it just wasn't as good as I remember. Tonight I had KFC & it was awful! Yeah, it was always awful, but now that I'm not accustomed to deep-fried chicken, it's just gross!

Maybe by next Summer I'll be able to fit into those Jordache jeans :p

Disclaimer: I've actually never owned anything by Jordache.

We thought about buying one, but space is a premium in our house, and since we don't fry much food normally, it doesn't fill a need.
Neat idea though for those who do. Although I wonder if the perception that this is healthier will deceive people into consuming more unhealthy food.

been fooling with this thing for several months now & I think I just had the best wings of my life

flour, baking powder, coarse-ground black pepper, cayenne pepper, MSG

this "breading" didn't burn like when I used panko crumbs in the past, so I was able to keep it under the 400F heat longer, thus crispier

while that was browning I mixed up some buffalo sauce with some original Sriracha sauce (the Thai one), more cayenne pepper & black pepper
rolled the hot wings in the sauce & served the remaining sauce on the side

SO good!

......some original Sriracha sauce (the Thai one)......

I never knew there were other versions until just the other day when I stopped at my local Asian market to pick up some things.
I saw another bottle labeled Sriracha, and laughed out loud how someone in Asia was ripping off the rooster bottle. The Vietnamese man who owns the market, and is a friend of ours, laughed back and told me all about Sriracha.
Now I know it is a generic term, not a brand.

Do not get the Trader Joe's Sriracha, that stuff is like mild salsa. :meh:

Have one, love it... It is that bigger one Sam's was selling....

Tip: PAM. Spray PAM the hell out of it to make it easier to clean...

Best chicken wings out there....and no breading....

I dump the whole wings in a big zip lock, add spices and a bit of olive oil.... Zip it, roll it around and massage it...

I set for 8 min at 375°, go watch TV. Beep, go flip em. Set for another 8 minutes but I check after about 5 though...

Can cook about anything but wings are da cheeze in an air fryer... No breading and they taste killer...and crisp up...
