Alberta bound!

Well, I've got a gig at noon tomorrow, and then my lovely wife and I are off to Alberta for a well-deserved holiday. Long drive, but I'll be watching a lot of movies on the way, since she enjoys the drive so much (and gets car-sick if she's not driving. :smug:), I'll probably only have to drive about 6 hours both ways, though I do most of the city driving.

Anyway, that was some useless info for you all........

Off to bed, up early for a run, finish packing, load up for gig, play (outside in the heat :spit:), boot home and unload, reload, and hit the road. :D

I'll be poking around periodically, I'm sure, but I doubt I'll be able to keep up. Feel free to PM me if anything CRAZY goes down, (like if Munji scores another INSANE piece of bass.) ;)

Oh, and if anyone knows of some killer bass-oriented stores I should be scoping out (Calgary/Edmonton), please let me know........I'll have at least one day to myself while my wife tackles Ikea.:smug:

My home province!
Didn't recognize much of anything after a visit last week -moved to lotusland in '86. That open sky, the rolling hills, the flat prairie, still holds a place in my heart. . .

I saw a nice "F" bass at Mother's Music. Had to stop by, as I spent almost every day there after junior high school. Have fun!

Hmmm.... I don't know about calgary, but if youwant high end basses in Edmonton, Avenue Guitars is about your only option (theres a long-mcquade with a warwick or two, but thats it).

It's really not that great for these things in edmonton. I'd be aiming toward calgary if I were you. Try and avoid west ed mall too... highly overrated... If the wife is going to ikea, south ed common has all the stores with about 1/3 the silly goth kids.

Where exactly is the travel taking you? Much as I should be stoned ( the bad way) for saying this as an edmonton resident, spend more time in calgary or the mountains!

Well, we've arrived safely. We come to the mountains every summer, so it's very familiar territory. :D

I've been to all the beautiful places, and though I never tire of it, this week is going to be a little less scheduled, and more about relaxing.....

Catching up with family and friends. Though we'll spend a day or two in Banff and Lake Louise. Much fun to be had!

I love Calgary/Edmonton!

For bass shops in Calgary, I love Long and McQuade. You probably have one in Winnipeg though. The Long and McQuade in Calgary is the best one I've been too (a lot bigger than the one in Edmonton). They carry most of the Fenders and Ibanez. They also have Warwicks, Musicman and Modulus.

There's another music shop called St.Johns right across the street that you can check out, they have a lot of peavys and pianos, if you're into that. I think there's one in Winnipeg.

Axe music is fairly good, they have some of the less commons brands, I think they carry Dingwalls. I would go here if you want to try out some uncommon stuff. They have a website and they sell online too.

Mother's Music if great for used stuff and I believe they have a few Musicmans (but you have than in Winnipeg too).

For other things to do in Calgary, you must got to Peter's Drive in (219 16 Ave NE). They have extra thick milkshakes that are fantasic! There is usually a long line this time of year.

Take a walk along the river, it's really nice. I've heard good things about the Zoo too, but I have't been there for a few years. 17th ave and Kensington has a lot of neat small shops.

For Edmonton, Dadeo's (10548a Whyte Avenue) makes awesome cajan food. Try their Sweet Potato fries. I love West Ed and I'm actually going to the Waterpark there next weekend.

There's nothing extremely different from Winnipeg to Calgary and Edmonton but these are just some of the places I really like.

L&M is my regular store to visit back home, though there's been a high turnaround lately, and the regular guys are all gone. I'll definitely be checking it out today!

We've got a similar place in Winnipeg, called the Bridge Drive-In (BDI). Very similar, and very tasty!

AWESOME! I love cajun! We'll be in Edmonton for Thursday and Friday. I want to go to Rexall place and get a picture with the Gretzky statue.:smug:

Yeah, everytime we visit it feels more and more similar to home. Calgary's a LOT more modern, though. But the little shops and activities around the city are similar.

If you're hitting up Dadeo's, its can be worth walking down to whyte to check out avenue guitars. its cramped, and hot, but they have decent stuff sometimes. Mostly musicmen/fenders, but I've seen a sadowsy and and alembic and other interesting characters roll through there.

If you're looking to take the wife to a nice dinner, there's a restaurant or two that are surprisingly good in edmonton. The hardware grill is good food, and downtown, as is characters. If you're in the whyte ave area try the unheardof (I haven't been but have meant to for a while now). It can be tricky, but I've gotten in on pretty short notice before. all have easy to find/use websites so you can check prices/menus..

The only store worth mentioning that I went to was the L&M in Calgary.

They actually had a POG in stock so I fiddled with that for about 20 mins, and it was AWESOME. Now I'm GASsing for one, but don't think I'll ever pull the trigger on it. Just too much cash for a neato toy right now.

Just finished the 13 hour drive back home, so it's bedtime.......
