You guys don't want this bass! I bought it from this seller last year and had to return it because the truss rods were stripped. The action is high and the bass is tough to play in its current state because the action is so high and the truss rods can not be adjusted.
If you’re saying you bought this last year, then why did you post, above, asking for details on May 31 of this year?
This thread is making me scratch my head. Why is someone who’s not the seller posting details about the bass, and why is someone simultaneously interested in buying it AND an unhappy former purchaser? I’m in the market for this kind of Alembic, but what’s up?
Ha, I searched the seller’s feedback and saw the thread that the seller got the bass from and copied the specs from there. IDK, I messsaged the seller within minutes of him listing the bass and have reached back out 3 times but no reply so I am not sure what is going on. I would love to bring this Europa home (unless it is actually unplayable...).
Ah. Well, that was nice of you, sharing the details with us even though you’re interested in it yourself. That “stupid low action” line dates back to 2016. I wonder if the statement that “now the action is so high and the truss rods can not be adjusted” will hold true. And if so, what happened to it? I think you’re first in line, DeltaPhoenix. Let us know if/when you hear back.
Yeah, not sure what to think about the high action/messed truss rods statement. Alembics are top quality and I doubt the truss rods are not working. We’ll see what happens, I am wondering if the seller is having second thoughts...I have an Alembic and man, it would be so hard to sell.
Yes, I purchased the bass last year. When I first saw this post and expressed interest, I did not realize it was the same bass. When the pictures were posted it was obvious. I have emails and proof of sale if anyone has doubt's. I also have the photos that I took when I had the bass. Is it true, the truss rods will not adjust. Have had many Alembics over the years. The bass is beautiful but it has issues. But all of this is moot because the seller hasn't responded to anyone anyway.
Ah. Thank you very much for taking the time to clarify, and to give all of the Talkbass community the heads-up. It’s much appreciated.
Absolutely. I had to open a PayPal dispute and pay for return shipping on this one. It was a mess. When I received the bass it looked like it had not been played in years. The strings were very old and nasty. Tons of grime on them and totally dead. It's a shame because it is a beautiful bass. It needs to be sent to Alembic and repaired. This thread is definitely odd though. The seller has not replied here, nor to any of us that expressed interest.
If so, we as a community do not need people misleading potential buyers here and thank you for this information. Many of us here buy/sell boutique instruments that members are unable to to walk into music stores and try out so its a leap of faith in a sense when making a purchase. We need to maintain a tight knit community here based on trust and communication IMO.
