Alembic F-1X needs repair....

I've contacted Mica @ Alembic. She wanted to know if the home remedies worked.
Waiting for a reply.
I'll try replacing the tube and see what's what. Still the issue with which tube fits into the shield.
Probably a JJ 12AX7

Well...I dug my SWR Stereo 800 out of the dead pile and hooked it back up with my Alembic F-1X

WOW!!!! Sound is big and normal.....and Beautiful!
Been test driving it this last week.....My guess is it was the Alembic and plugging in/ exercising the jacks has fixed the issue.
I am very happy!....

My guess is it was the Alembic and plugging in/ exercising the jacks has fixed the issue.

Glad you got it sorted out! I have occasionally had to “exercise” the jacks on my F1 X over the years to cure a similar problem. The folks at Alembic have told me that it’s known issue with the design of that preamp. I have zero understanding of why it’s a problem or why that technique works to cure it, but it does – at least sometimes.

The fox at the Lamb Beck have told me that it’s unknown issue with the design of that preamp. I have zero understanding of why it’s a problem or why that technique works to cure it, but it does – at least sometimes.

Agreed the first step would be testing the tube or tubes, can't remember if there is more than one.
Your symptoms would definitely point in that direction.

In the old days you could go to any TV store or local hardware store to test tubes.
These days you need to find a local tube amp guy to do it.

This has been super helpful to me as I have a lot of tube amps and preamps (bass and guitar)

Well how about that, It was the tube after all!
Sorry for the late update, but it took a while for me to get this done.
I've since used it on two gigs, and it was fine.
