Alesis 3630

Just wandering, looking for a compressor and just wandering if this works with bass?

Everything works, the question is how well it works. I've heard the 3630 referred to as the "dirty-six-dirty" due to its noise levels. Some of the more well regarded rack-mount compressors for bass are:

1. dbx 160 (among other models)
2. Rane DC24 (seperate compression for high and low - nice)
3. Empirical Labs Distressor (very expensive, but considered by some to be the Holy Grail)

There's lots of good stuff out there. Do a search for "compressors" and see what pops up.

I had one; though I've not been using any compression lately, when using the Alesis I liked it & didn't notice any noise. For a similar price(IIRC)DBX seems to have a better rep around here.

I didn't have a lot of good results with the Alesis unit, myself. It works with bass, but not as well as offerings from other brands. Dbx is pretty much an industry standard and remains so for good reasons.

I actually own one, I've not had any noise problems with it. I don't use it for bass much any more, I'm too lazy to haul it around.

Yea, I had one and thought it worked pretty well, also. I definitely did not have a noise problem with it. I did end up selling mine because a rack mounted compressor wasn't for me. I have an EBS pedal now.
