Alex Blake...........

Woo-hoo, zombie thread! :::dancing banana:::

Alex Blake with Billy Cobham and the Brecker Brothers

Yeah, I first heard of Blake from those mid-1970s Billy Cobham albums. Then his association with McCoy Tyner -- where I'm fairly certain he only played upright? -- and also a long association with The Manhattan Transfer. He may have been their music director? or I might be conflating Alex Blake with keyboardist Yaron Gershovsky. I might have to whip out the Google...*

Alex Blake is definitely a consumate professional, great sound/feel/chops/ears. But also way under-the-radar compared to so many other bass players whose careers were active over the same time period.

*edit: Google confirmed that keyboardist Yaron Gershovsky has been MT's MD for a long time, and it also confirmed that Alex Blake played with MT for a long time, but I can't find any confirmation that Blake was ever the MT's MD.

Google also confirmed that while Alex Blake did play with McCoy Tyner, the bassist I was thinking of re: long association on upright only was Avery Sharpe, not Alex Blake!
