I'm looking for an all around effects unit. Something with distortion similar to what Larry Graham used with Sly, Decent Chorus and maybe an Envelope Follower. What recommendations do you have?

I think you want a two loop loooper, a tri-ac, a mutron, and maybe instead of the chorus and get a really good phase shifter. Judging by your example I think the multi-units will disappoint you.
