I prefer flats. Rounds are fun to play, but I get more enjoyment out of flats. I like my bass to sound bassy with as little highs as I can muster. Heck, I barely ever even use my g string.

I believe flats represent only 13% of the string market but those 13% must all be TB members.

One thing I've learned on TB is: The ones that know the least always say it the loudest.

Use only flats.
Use only P basses
Use only fingers
Never use picks
Never use music stands
Never sound like a Piano?

Just a few rules that I break on a regular basis.

I like round wound strings but the Thomastik flats I tried sounded pretty good.

You forgot "Never play above the 5th fret!"

I actually use to do just that, now I just use flats....dead strings to me sound like a BASS......new ones, especially rounds sound like a big guitar.

I actually really don't like how flats feel.

If they made them, I'd get rounds for my upright, too.

i recently switched to flats and i get the feeling i wont switch back for a while.

had to get accustomed to the feel as they are like cables but now i really love them. the sound is amazing. a lot of punch without the loss of sustain. monster low end and beautiful mid range. it sound good no matter where i plug my bass in. i hated the DI sound of my bass when it had rounds. it was so thin and trebly. now its perfect

Lol, the flatwound users are a persistent and dedicated old bunch arent they. Myself will continue to do like most and use roundwounds for better sound and feel. Cant see any of the main music styles I like sounding at all good with flats for bass. Lol.

Never, ever use flats, no, nada, to dam dead sounding for me. I just love the sound I get from rounds

Not me, never will. But I love a P with flats in the right musical setting. That setting isn't what I do or like to do personally. Flats can sound amazing though and I get it.

Flats are cool. But for me, You can make rounds thud (see Bobby Vega, Rocco Prestia, Ed Friedland) Butcha can't make flats ring. YMMV.

I keep a Fender P bass with flatwounds in the house for recording sessions when a client
wants an old-school Motown sound. I never
use it live, but it makes sense to have a
bass with flats in your arsenal.

Players that use flats are generally more sophisticated and refined. Like a good wine verses ripple. NOT - I use both and they have completely different uses. My p is the go to blues bass with LaBella Jamerson's (stiffest strings out there and my fingers know it), My Tbird gets switched quite often between Roto 66's, dA's XL170s or Black Beauties for alternative and my J which I don't play that often has Chromes on it.

Just depends what I'm playing.
