All things Line6 Helix (LT, Rack, Floor)

There are big threads for the HX Stomp and HX Effects, but no organized collection thread for their big brothers that I can find. Maybe there's not enough interest for it, but here's my attempt nonetheless.

I've been a longtime HX Stomp and HX Effects user, and I use Helix Native for recording sometimes (though I mostly use my HX/Helix hardware units).

As much as I think the HX Stomp is the best small multi-FX and modeler on the market, I recently finally got tired of the DSP limitations and the compromises I had to make. I'm also playing more guitar these days, where the HX Stomp really shows its limitations in terms of building anything more than bare-bones guitar rigs.

So I moved up to a Helix LT, and I love it. The increased DSP power and routing options, the expression pedal, extra switches, extra snapshots, and so on just really lets me build much more flexible sounds and presets.

I find that I can combine 3-4 of my HX Stomp presets into one LT preset, which means less preset changes on stage, less hassle when I want to change a block that's common to more than one preset, and much more.

At the moment, I tend to set up snapshots for amp settings (one for clean, one for grit, one for DI, bypassing the amp/cab blocks, and so on). I stick to only using four snapshots at the most, so that I can jump between full stomp mode, and snap/stomp mode for my footswitches. My main four effects are always accessible on the front four switches, while the back four switches can jump between effects and snapshots.

Here are my two current Helix units (Helix Native not pictured). I'm usually really bad about keeping gear that's not part of my main rig, but the HX Stomp really needs to stay with me. Such an increedibly powerful compact rig. Looking forward to continuing my tonal explorations, and hopefully learning from others here.

So what's everyone's preferred "slight grit" effect?

I'm having some really good results with the Retro Reel block, turning off the modulation and adjusting the saturation to taste.

Other than that, I'm currently working on finding a drive effect that can approach the Darkglass Alpha Omega. Thick, but not muddy; crisp but not harsh. I'm about to give up on the B7K model; I just can't get the harshness dialed out of it.

Here's hoping for more bass drives in 3.80. An Alpha Omega model would be stellar!

I have yet to find a drive I like for bass. Usually I use snapshots and adjust the drive in the amp block to dirty things up.

Yeah, the amp drive usually sounds good. However, I'm splitting my signal off to a real amp on stage before the amp block (sending the amp block to FoH), so I have to rely on getting my drive tone earlier in the chain.

Maybe there's a preamp block that could work going into an amp? It's worth a try I suppose.

Could you explain this setup? Call me extremely intrigued.

thanks!
Bass -> Focusrite -> MacBook Air running Helix Native Plugin in MainStage -> Focusrite -> Khan VTDI -> FOH
I found a template for MainStage that was intended for keyboardists to display sheet music. I put a jpeg copy of the chord chart for the song into the template. The Coda Stomp is a bluetooth page turner but it will index the patch within a set in MainStage. This allows me sort of snapshots if you will when using Helix Native or to change pages of music if it is multiple pages. It was cool to play with as an idea and works well for a protected space like a church stage. Not sure if I would take it to a bar gig. Another advantage is it makes for a great silent practice rig too. You can load mp3 files into a playback channel in MainStage to practice along with.

Hi! i have a Hx stomp white with a B7kultra and king of tone , the other external wet fx is for selling, i have the chance to well sell the hx and upgrade to lt or floor for who try, at "same" price what will you choose, big brother? Here in Spain could get about 1000€ with case. In that case maybe the b7k ultra surplus.

THANKS
