Just ordered this from GC.

Never played a Wunkay before, but I love the p-bass sound from reading around it sounds like I should like this. Plus if I don't like it GC has a solid return policy.

So, this is obviously a well used older bass. Never bought one kind of sight un-seen before, any advice on what to look for in terms of serious problems? Or anything 1981 Wunkay specific, for example, I read a post early about a potential issue with the bullet style truss road?

Here's a pic I took of it

I guarantee the truss rod works with no issues. The pickup is a replacement, the original is in the case

Excellent, Thanks for the info! Your employees were great to deal with btw. They notified me that the original P/U was in the case, do you have any idea on what the replacement pickup is? Also, if you have any other info on the guitar? I know it definitely looks roadworn or relic'd from the pics, but any other info would be great!

It's the correct pickup just a replacement. There's some wear and tear and there was a big sticker on the back at one time which was peeled off leaving some paper residue but it's clear the bass was used not abused. It's a nice piece, if it doesn't work for you let me know! Glad to hear that my colleagues were good to deal with, I think we have one of the best GCs in the country

How is the fret wear?

I was looking at that one last night with a little string of drool on the side of my mouth. Congrats on the new bass and thanks for helping keep my $ in the bank.

I'm always glad to help! I almost let it slide, but I haven't bought a new bass in like 10+ years and I've been wanting to try out a Wunkay. I figured this was the best oppurtunity.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the weight. I really want one of those early G&Ls. But the few I've tried weighed as much or more as my 75 P. Getting older. May need to start going lighter.

As for the paper residue left on the back of the guitar, do you know of a good way to clean that off without effecting the finish too much>?
