almost ready/first build

  1. I have just started my very first bass.
All I have decided is that my core wood is Ash / I've glued my body blanks.

I'm not sure though if I should cap it with walnut though .Here is a pic of some walnut with a strip of what we call Pang Panga which from what I can gather is Wenge or a close relative of Wenge . Seeing that it's my first build maybe I should keep it simpler and use ash throughout . Any suggestions would be great.
Wenge looks pretty hard to work with.

The other pic is of a local African hard wood that they call Blackwood or Lead wood . I thought that it would make a great fretless board . The stuff is like steel and in fact the wood yard is loathe to use their saws on it unless necessary . It's beautiful, incredibly hard and really heavy.

I like the walnut piece but not sure about the wenge-ish strip. How thick is it? The black wood looks just great.
  3. Approx 20mm thick / perhaps better used for neck lam !
