alternative to cubase

Hello everybody. I am beginning to build my own little home studio. I am going to purchase the zoom r16 as I have heard so many great things about it. I was looking for a good software to run into and I was hearing so much about cubase. Well I looked up cubase and its extremely expensive. Does anybody have any other ideas of software I can use. I also want something that I can sync video up with. Im not computer savvy and I don't know if thats done with something like this or if thats something that would be done in a video camera software that I send the audio to. Im looking to be able to make online videos as well as recordings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Mike

you'll get a million responses as everyone likes different software.

you need two kinds of software: first is digital audio workstation (DAW) for processing audio (like Cubase). I have used several and prefer Presonus Studio One.

you also will need video editing software that allows you to insert the processed sound file to synch against one or more video feeds, still photos, etc. I have used several and prefer Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum.

It's a big topic and involves a lot of self-training to produce quality online videos. The biggest weakness in these is crappy audio. Be prepared to spend a lot of time coming up to speed.

Im fairly certain what im going to do for audio at this point. Im gonna go from my bass to my dr rhythm 880 drum machine. To the zoom r16 to Reaper software which is where I will complete the audio tracks. I have never recorded videos before so I know nothing about it. I need a camera I can take good quality videos with then sync my audio files from reaper up with the videos. Do you know of any "camera software" that I can do this with. Like I said, I dont know much about this stuff but I have about 800$ to spend on a camera and software and im ready to start making youtube videos for lessons, covers, effects and instrument reviews, etc etc etc. Thanks for any input, Mike

Try the REAPER forum for suggestions on synchronizing music to video. I have not tried this, but have been using REAPER for quite a while now, and find it very agreeable! Ease of use is outstanding!

I'm a former long-time Steinberg user, and just had enough with the constant updates to Cubase and Wavelab. REAPER license is either $60 or $200, depending upon your honesty, and intended income level. I have the personal and small business license. It's more than worth the investment, even if you don't use REAPER as your primary DAW.
