Someone on another post recommended a speaker line that is essentially a K series knock off at a more affordable price, but I can't remember what it was or find the post. Any recommendations for something similar to the K8, but less expensive? Asking for a friend. No, really: my neighbor wants something similar to my K8 just for playing recorded music for neighborhood parties and probably doesn't need to spend that much. Thanks in advance.

Alternative to QSC K Series

QSC CP series is the “budget” version of their range. I’ve got CP12s for FoH (with subs) and CP8s as vocal monitors - still great QSC quality to my ears, so not quite a “knock off” (ymmv of course), but a step down in price from the K series

This model (Harbinger v4112 $349), not the lesser model from previous years. These guys sound amazing. 1250w constant, 2500w peak. I bought one when the K's weren't available. Ended up buying 3 more and saving a ton of money. These guys are not lacking one bit. Totally happy with them. I use 2 for mains flying over the KS112's and 2 for monitors. The system kicks butt. The 12's (vs 15's)are way better for vocals if you're going to use them in a PA

I have used a pair of Yamaha DBR's for a couple of years and I am quite satisfied with them. (Mine are 15's, but the 12's are pretty nice. I have never heard the 10's.)
While not a budget pick, I’ve been very impressed with the RCF options. The 932/945 speakers have the most natural mid and high range sound I’ve heard. When I bought new speakers last year I wanted the the 945s, but nobody had any and I ended up buying the QSC K12.2/KS118 system instead. It’s great. But the RCF rig sounds better…
was just reading through this thread and thought I'd look at the RCF boxes you suggested just out of curiosity. You mentioned they are "not budget picks" and that's for sure (RCF = $1,399, QSC= $899). The 935's (2 way 12's with ~2kW power) run 30% more than the K12.2's. Both boxes spec pretty close in terms of power, dB's and freq response.
Yep. All true. I auditioned them back to back at Sweetwater. The RCF speakers sounded consistently better to my ear across a range of program material. I would’ve bought them if they’d have been available. That said, I went home with the K12.2/KS118 system with no regrets…
Our soundman just bought a pair of RCF 15 mains and subs. We were using the EV 50's column array system and could never get the vocals over the band. The vocals are now on top of the mix and sound very rich and crisp.
