The Shoals
Hey fellas, I'm hoping for someone who's more experienced than I to chime in on the title line!

I've got a 5-string with a Hipshot A-style bridge with 19mm spacing that I'd love to replace - specifically with a bridge that has 17 or 18mm spacing. So far though, I haven't seen any bridges with closer spacing that share the same mounting hole pattern. (Don't want to drill new holes if at all possible.)

Am I wishfully thinking at this point?

Did you already adjust the little saddle spacing inserts to bring the spacing in as tight as it can be?

(the A string insert centered, all the other strings brought in towards the A)

See how this insert is moved off center, towards the set screw:

That'll get you to 17.2 mm. I'm impressed; I didn't think it was that adjustable.

Not too long ago a guy brought in his bass complaining that the G was almost off the neck.

He had lost the setscrew somehow and the saddle insert was stuck at the extreme outer edge.

It was a cheap fix.

GREAT. STUFF. Every once in while, in between bass-related puns, pictures of new gear, and feeble attempts to argue behind a keyboard, this forum is GOLD for insight like that! :D:laugh:;) Thanks fellas!
