Am I about to Blow this up?

so ive got a peavey mark III running thru a 4x10 (fender) and 1x15 (sob) and a sunn beta lead (guitar amp) thru a 4ohm 2x12. I want to mess around with bi-amping sounds.

I have a 4 channel mixer, and im thinking i can plug my bass into an inst imput, and use the speaker outs from the mixer to the amp imputs. Thus letting me eq my signal differently to each amp - mids and highs to guitar amp, lows and highs to bass. (both cabs have a horn)

the goal is solid lows clean highss and adjustable overdrivin mids.

and comments, or recommendations greatly appreciated before i blow my amps up trying this..

NO SPEAKER outs to amp inputs! DANGER DANGER!!!!

You want a lower level signal to the bass/guitar head. use only line level or lower to the amp heads.


What kind of outputs do you have from the mixer. Since you said SPEAKER outputs, I'm guessing it is a powered mixer.

Speaker outs??

mixer is a behringer eurotrack mx 1604A
outputs include: "main output" (balanced xlr), "main out" R and L 1/4 inch, and "ALT output" -labled R/4 and L/3

can i run any of these to an amps inst in?

Ok they are NOT speaker outputs. It is only a standard mixer then.

You can use main out or alt or tape outs to the amp inputs.
The signals will be very "HOT" (Much louder that your guitar puts out)for the standard inputs of the amps so start with VERY low signals from the mixer into the amp.

If the amps have effect inputs that would be a better place to send the signal from the mixer. just be carefull because it will be very east to overdrive the Amp pre-amps. You shouldn't damage anything while you experiment of your not CRAZY with he signal to the amps.

You're spinning your wheels here. To biamp, you need a crossover, dedicated subs, and midrange drivers, and seperate amps. Key being the crossover. What you have is a bunch of gear, and you want to get creative with it, but this idea is BAD. Use the 2 rigs with an AB/Y pedal, put dirt on the guitar amp, and rock that.

I was thinking doesn't the mark bass head have a effect loop out or send?

If so you could use the mixer between the amps to tweek the EQ if you wanted. Mush better way to go. Leave the bottom end on the bass cab, and push the mids highs to the gurtard cab.

yes the mark bass has a line patch send and retrn. So should the send go to the inst in the mixer then, remove lows and mixer output to sunn power amp line in?

That how I would do it if you wanted to experiment. Bass > amp> Amp send out > mixer in,(line level or inst) tweek eq > to guitar amp. either effect in or Inst just remember to start with low levels first.
