Here is a big surprise in 24 frets.. the Brian Moore i4 I picked up for under $300 bucks with flight case. The neck is like no other, thin and lightning fast, super low action and good to the last fret. By the way, to all those people who think that 24 frets is somehow unnecessary or superfluous... try covering Metallica's Orion on 20 frets. Best of luck.

A fender jazz v24 5 string deluxe. Tobacco sunburst 3 band eq active pups.
Just saying you don't have to skip fender to have 24 frets.

For that much money, I would pick up an Ibanez SRMS 806, not a Fender. Not a fan of their weight or their necks. Too used to ultra thin Ibanez or ESP style necks.

So whats your issue then? You say you're troubled by the fact you can't play a fender but you don't like them anyway. Here's the news. Fendrer aren't the be all and end all of bass. If you're happy with Ibanez then take pride in being your own person rather than playing what people say you should. I said I have a 24 fret Fender. Didn't say it was my favorite.

People get used to things, and like one thing more than another. Some people freak out over having a 35" scale or 5 strings. I have a bunch of different basses with different features so it doesn't phase me. The only thing I don't have is an unlined fretless. That's outside my comfort zone.

Anyway, play what you want. The more you enjoy your experience as a musician, the more it will be reflected in your performance, and the more the audience will pick up on that.

I would suggest you check out the Ibanez Portamento series - unlined boards, but lines on the side of the board to align to - I love mine, and it REALLY sharpened my fretless playing, much more than my lined fretless did.

So, to preface this, I currently have seven basses, which, yes, is excessive. My horde includes a fretless six string custom Thor Bass, a fretless five string Ibanez, a fretted five string ESP, a fretted six string Ibanez, a fanned fret five string Ibanez, a four string Ibanez, and a four string ESP. The one thing all my basses have in common is that they all have at least 24 frets (one of my fretless basses has 30, technically). I cannot deal with playing on 20 fret necks. It screws with my entire usual play style. Yes, this means that I can't do Fender basses. At all. I know, that's an unpopular opinion, but I cannot be alone in the "I need 24 frets to do my job properly" camp. Or am I? You tell me! Constructive comments welcome.

No, you're not an "outlier". If people didn't need 24 frets to play the music they play? Companies would not make basses with 24 - or more - frets. Personally? I do not need that many frets, even though I have several 24-fretted basses in my 30 bass "Herd". I don't need more than 4 strings, either... For what I play most of the time? 14 frets would be all I'd need - and most of the time, 12 would be overkill. If you need that many frets, then you need them. Use them, and be happy...

I have 4x times that, and I think your collection is excessive. By the end of 26, I hope mine is much smaller.
