Amendment to a NBD thread

2x NBD

my amendment is for the Harley Benton "shorty"
Short scale bass.
I haven't been able to keep my hands off it lately.
Maybe i just adapt well or just don't care but im digging playing this little bass even though its a chunky little monkey.
I changed the strings to EB slinkies (for short scale) 45-105s. That was an instant improvement in sound over the stock strings.
I recently changed the pickup to an Oripure P and the pots from 250k to 500k. Is that an improvement?... honestly I don't know. The differences were subtle to my ears but there were differences. With the 500k pots, im definitely using the tone knob more than i ever have with any of my basses. So far I've only been solo playing, ill be curious what i do with the tone knob on jam night.

i also made it look a bit better with a custom pick guard.

I stated on a couple threads that I wouldn't recommend this bass. I might now but with a few reservations

I'm liking the current setup with the 500k pots.
I should have left the volumes alone with that recording. I cant tell much tone wise personally but the 500k was hotter.
With that, i turn the tone lower than with a set of Geezers that i have in another bass.
At that point its pretty nice..
Ill work on another comparison with tone options between the Geezers and the Oripure.
That could be interesting.

The 500k should add a little treble which greatly increases the perceived volume so that makes
sense.

I do like hot pickups, but for me a P starts to lose its vintage tone with the extra power and becomes something else.

Have to say Dubious to my ears I very much like the 'stoke' pickups. The Ori's (250k) are also very very nice, seem hotter and have a nice clear low-mid sound the (500k) pot sounds too thin and a little harsh for my taste and lose clarity with the extra highs, that being said you may find they may cut through nicely. I'd be interested in hearing them in a mix. Well done!
