Here it is... I've got this rig:

BBE 383 Preamp
Crest FA901 poweramp
Peavey RBS-1 215 cab (500 rms @ 4 ohm)
Avatar B210 NEO cab (500 rms @ 8 ohm)

The Peavey cab has a passive crossover at 200 Hz. It's got a 4 ohm jack going in from the amp labeled "Low" or "Full-Ramge". There is an extension jack going out to an extra speaker (this will be the Avatar) labeled "High", which is an 8 ohm jack.

The Crest poweramp will run at 8 or 4 ohms in Bridged mode, and 8, 4, or 2 ohms in Stereo. If I'm running the Crest in Bridged mode, will I blow the amp? Is this effectively running my Crest poweramp at less than 4 ohms in Bridged mode? It is, isn't it!

Do I need to run it in Stereo?

The reason for the differing ohmage ratings on the Peavey is (pretty obviously, if you know about this) the need for more power to go to the "lows" cab. The lower the freq, the more power needed to bring it up to workable volume. Right.

If necessary, I could call up Dave at Avatar and have the cab built to the 4 ohm spec for the Stereo scenario. I don't believe they've recieved my money order yet. I know!... this just occurred to me- but all the info I'd gotten up to now, from Peavey and others, has had me thinking this will be fine- to run Bridged into these two cabs. And of course, I can run in Stereo, and hook up accordingly from the bi-ampable BBE 383... I'm just doing a last "Panic-Check"!

The two cabs hooked up in parallel will give a nominal load of 2.67 ohms to your amp, which is too low to run bridged. You will need to run in stereo mode.

Aside from that, however you set up will be a matter of taste, in terms of biamping, the relative levels you send to each cab, etc.

I have come to this realization after talking to Dave at Avatar, and the good folks at Peavey. Funny, it just got a liitle confusing- all the jacks in back of the Peavey cab, and this crossover business. I'm no genius when it comes to signal flow, obviously!

So Stereo it is- two 4 ohm cabs, I've decided to go with (this in my best Yoda voice).
