Amp recommendation for a college dorm.

Well the college I'm going to is centered around music, so a lot of other musicians are gonna be there anyway. I'll look into all the amps suggested here, plus I plan on going to a ton of music shops around Nashville in a week or so where I'll be living and seeing what they have.

You're coming to Nashville? Welcome! Lots of us Music City TBers. You should check out Gruhn while your here, nice shop, nice guys. I think they are in the process of moving from their Broadway location, but you can find info on their website.

A used Roland Cube 100 would be great. They're compact, loud, and durable (apart from the cheap knobs), and they sound great. They have headphone jacks, but unfortunately no aux in. The newer Cube XL line does, but those might be hard to find used, and they're tough to recommend new at their prices. The top two models have built-in tuners, which along with the built-in effects make them excellent grab-and-go options. I would have LOVED something like it in college.

The Ibanez Promethean, as suggested is nice because it can get crazy loud.
I use a SWR LA 12 for practise because it can stomach a 5 string and has a very neutral sound that does not cover up any flaws in my play.
Things that sound good enough when played through my stack in rehearsal quite often sound awful at home, so i practise until they're good at home as well, making them sound better with the band.
