Amp suggestions for folk bass

I play bass in a folk band and I need to get an amp. Any suggestions? We play mostly smaller shows for now, but are recording in June and hope to be playing bigger shows soon. I play a '78 Rickenbacker and I'm looking for a nice even sound, not too sharp but not too low either (if that makes sense. I don't know much about technical aspects yet!). I'm looking for something about $2,000 and under for now.

go play as many amps as you can, and buy the one that you like the most. picking out gear for someone is like picking out a spouse for someone, except people spend a lot more time and effort researching gear than they do a spouse.
