Amp troubles

Hey all.

Im running an Ampeg b2r head into 2 4x10 cabs..both rated at 8 ohms.
The problem im having is that when i play a low E my second cab distorts, the problem lessens as the volume reduced however it is not completely fixed.

I have tried plugging the cabs individually into the head and they both work perfectly, i also tried using both of my speaker leads, again perfect.
But when i plug them in together i always get one distort. And it seems to be the one thats connected second (ie. from one cab to another rather than directly from the head).
However of late they are doing it individually, even whn they aren't daisy-chained

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?..could it be my cabs?
Neither of them are great quality but im sure the wattage and resistence is not incorrect.

Oh and also its not like i have the gain or bass cranked..even a minimal amount and i get the problem.

So yeah any help would be great.

What kinda cabinets? what power rating?

It is possible to get distortion from the cab for a number of different reasons....

Straight over-power, the speakers exceed their rated movement, and start to do folds" etc.

Transient over-power, with speakers that have poor cone control, voice coil hits magnet, making a pistol shot sound.

Air leaks. Sound like a bad speaker.

Cabinet rattles.

Amp protection circuit cutting in due to low impedance or speaker problems like rubs, overheating and shorts, etc.

Those are common ones, there are others also.

The cabs are an ashton (cheap Australian brand).. and another 4x10 with no brand name on it, but has eminence speakers.

The no name is rated at 400 watts and 8 Ohms. I don't know about the Ashton as i bought it all second hand from my cousin and was not really told much other than being reassured it was decent.

As for the sounds, its not really a gun shot. More of a farting sound. When i'm using the cabs induvidually the problem mainly occurs at higher volumes, however when they are daisy-chained the second cab in the loop does it at low volumes even.

Sounds to me like you may be running out of power. Try the speakers with a more powerful amp if you can borrow one from a friend of maybe rent one.

WHOA!

same problem with mine. i highly doubt the head is the problem. they fart out when you let a low, open note ring, right?

Yeah sort of. But with mine it does it with fretted notes too, and not only when it rings out. But yes, it does when it rings out too.

i'm still looking for a solution. i have the same problem. maybe crappy drivers?
