I've got a 10 to 15 year old AMPEG 115 (8ohm 300w) cab (not sure the exact model) and the speaker is making a buzzing noise. When I took the grill off of the cab the fabric on the bottom of speaker is really soft and it looks like that's what's causing it to buzz. I don't know a whole lot about this type of stuff so I'm not sure what to do. I've looked at replacing the speaker with either the Eminence Beta 15a, the Delta 15a, or the Legend CB158 and I've also looked into reconing it but there aren't a lot of places in my area that does that kind of work. I want to go with the best bang for my buck. Please help! Thanks Folks!
If I were in your predicament, I'd try to replace the speaker with an exact match, even if I had to email Ampeg to see if they can help with identifying what's in there. Then I'd get a re-cone kit from Parts Express (online) and try to re-cone it myself. If successful, I'd have a spare for later. Good luck!
I looked into reconing and it's not worth it to me so at this point I'm just going to put in a new speaker. I've been looking at the Delta 15a and the Legend. Does anyone have experience with either of these? I've read a lot of posts that say the deltas are great but they're not listed with the other bass speakers. Will it work just as good as the legend? I understand that the speaker will determin the tone but I don't want to lose any bottom end as I play drop C tuning so I need something that can handle the lows. Again, I don't have a clue when it comes to this stuff so all the help I can get to pick a decent speaker is very appreciated! Cheers!
