Ampeg 3pro input repair

Hey guys,

The input on my SVT 3pro is acting flaky and I'd like to replace it. Is this something I can do myself? It looks like it's attached directly to the PCB.


Just curious if this is something I can do, or if I need to bring it in to a pro.

pcb mounted stuff can be tricky. if you can operate a soldering iron on a pcb without lifting traces, i'd say do it, but if you have any doubts, it's well worth the extra money a tech would charge, which shouldn't be much more than a bench charge.

If you are methodical, your idea of a soldering iron is no more that 30 watts, know how to use "solder wick" or a solder sucker and don't think you would be upgrading by replacing a plastic jack with a metal one...you might be ok?
If any of the above confuses or angers you, take it to a good tech and you will still be enjoying that amp for years to come without causing yourself added expense. I don't know your level of expertise so please don't be offended by anything being said?

I had a similar problem with my SVT-3 PRO. In my case (and very
likely yours), it just had some bad solder joints where the jack is
soldered to the PCB. Find a buddy who is handy with a soldering iron
and have him reflow the solder on those connections. I did that to
mine and it has been fine ever since (and I fixed it pretty long ago).

Thanks guys, I guess I'll probably take it in.

I wasn't sure if it was a part that I could replace and then just snap in to the board or it needed to be soldered.
