Ampeg 610hlf Speaker Issue?

Have an Ampeg 610hlf that sounds good... but when I play anything on the E string the bottom two speakers distort badly and move in and out (when looking at them without the grill on). Tried the battery test and all speakers responded the same to that... I know nothing about speakers, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what the problem may be?

I don't know for sure but I suspect they're blown.

Some movement is normal, crazy far movement isn't.

Search up the "battery test" here for an initial test. Go from there if need be.

A blown speaker or two would flop around in sympathy with the working ones but not be able to perform on their own.

Actually a blown speaker in the same air space will move opposite (out of polarity) as the good speakers. When good speaker push out (negative pressure in the cab) the blown speaker's cone will suck in. With the battery test it may move at first (opposite of the others) but not stay pushed out or sucked in. If just damaged, you should be able to hear a rough scraping sound from a "bad" speaker instead of a clean click, pop or thump.

I've had blown speakers still make sound before. One could argue that they're not really blown, but they get a nasty rattling sound and they might as well be.

Agreed. Try pushing gently on the suspect speakers cones. As stated above, you should feel/hear a rubbing or scraping If they're Blown.
