Ampeg B-15N plug-in question

Quick question. I see the Brainworx Ampeg B-15N plugin is available through Plugin Alliance for $19.99 or from UAD for $74. I have a UA Volt interface. Both plugins are crafted by Brainworx, but peddled by different companies. I have done a bit of searching and can’t find much info on what the difference is. Are they the same plug-in or so they behave differently. I cannot imagine nearly a 4x price increase just to pay via the UA website. Certainly there has to be a difference. I am fairly new to this and would appreciate some guidance.

They're likely the same plugin as Brainworx does a lot of work for UAD. The difference is often whether you want the DSP to be handled natively (Brainworx) or on a satelite DSP card (UAD). UAD has been transitioning to more native processing, or at least offering it as an option, so the differences might be negligible.

The best understanding I have is the UAD version will have improved latency if used on an Apollo interface with unison technology. I wouldn’t get to take advantage of that on my volt interface as it doesn’t have the capability. Which doesn’t matter to me. When I record at home I usually apply everything after tracking. Am I in the right ballpark? It’s otherwise the same tones?

You've got the basic idea.

The UAD version is formatted so that Apollos can handle the processing of it with their DSP freeing up the load on your CPU. The brainworx version is processed solely by your computer. In your case, the Brainworx is the better solution.
