Ampeg B-2RE

The B2RE gets a bad rap... I think we can all agree that it is no SVT.

I played one for two years and it never let me down. It was, and continues to be a very reliable amp.

When I ran it two cabinets at 4 ohms I was never wanting for volume.

If you have a bunch of used units in your area give one a try... you might really dig it.

Now having said that... If you keep hanging around here don't be too surprised if you begin to long for tubes .

At least that is what happened to me.

If you end up adding a tube preamp you would have been money ahead to simply start with one of the Ampeg hybrid amps.

For their ratings, the B2R and B2RE are the most underpowered on the market - compare them to ANY amp with similar ratings, and you'll see... I used one for a little while at a rehearsal room - then brought over a Peavey Mark VI, and it had WAY more power than the B2RE.. In fact, after hearing the 2 amps, my friend with the B2RE felt that he got ripped off for the money he spent on the B2RE... Both GK or Peavey provide a WAY better value than the B2R or B2RE...
