ampeg B-4R head

I suspect the lack of response is due to the fact that $1000 for a non-tube Ampeg head is just not most folks' idea of a great value. There's more amp to be had for the money, IMHO.

Personally, I'd get a Carvin B1500 and save several hundred dollars--way more power. They have a 10-day return policy, so you could always send it back.

I suppose the same goes for the head on Musiciansfriend, tho...buy something and see what you like!

the b4r is a sweet amp for being a solid state amp! if you find one for 500 or below thats a good deal. there are multiple ways you can set up your rig(s) with this head. It also comes down to how you like your sound! i got mine brand new for 400 and it does the job with any set up i use it with. (the best is with 4ohm cabs or 8ohms chained!

I wouldn't buy a new one, but if you could get a good deal on a used one, go for it. Personally, I prefer the SVT series. The B-4 is basically a lesser version of the SVT-4Pro, which is a very good amp and served me well for a couple years. The B series amps sounded less clear and defined when I tried em. My suggestion is, whenever possible, buy used, and go for a good SVT-4.

alright you crazy kids..little help here!!!!
i have the b4r head, i love this thing. here is the deal i have an 8ohm cab rated at 450wtts. i want to get another 2x10 rated at 200wtts 8ohms. now if chained i now have a 4ohm cab but im confused about what my wattage would be now?
the watts from the head parallel run at 250wttx2(205wtt continous)at 8ohms. and 420x2 (320wtts continuous) at 4ohms.
would my chained rig now be ONE 4ohm cab? pushing 420wtts? let me know if im right here!!! thanx

the head does support 2ohms. maybe i should break it down better ok check it.

two 8ohm cabinets.
one rated at 450wtts, the other rated at 200wtts.

when chained they become 4ohm cabinet.

so my question is how many watts do i now have?

the head supports 250wttsx2 parrallel at 8ohms
and supports 420wtts x2 parallel at 4ohms.

so IF the TWO cabinets chained become 4ohms is my watt rating now ONE 4ohm cabinet(according to the watts on my head) which will rate at 420wtts

I you are running stereo into 2 - 8 ohm cabs, you are only getting 205w rms per cab. If you bridge the cabs @ 4 ohms, you're getting 1000w rms total to both cabs. (500 per)
So be careful with you cab rated for 200 w.
I suggest you go to the Ampeg site and download the manual on the B4R.

no i only would get 1000w IF i bridge it (mono) i am not doing that, i am just linking two 8ohm cabs together, from what the manual states: in stereo the cabs run at 205at 8ohms
in stereo at 4ohms the cab run at 420w.

so im just running both cabs together into either the right or left channel NOT MONO @ 1000w.

im just trying to get the most watts out of the am into the cabinets. the easy solution is to get a cab that holds 1000w of powet and bridge the amp.

but mostly,i am trying to figure out the watts of the 2 chained cabinets.

In that case you're running a 4 ohm load on 1 side. It's 340w total rms on a 4 ohm load (2 - 8 ohm cabs). So 170w per cab. Why don't you run each cab into each side and at least get 35 more watts per cab??? And I already said "bridged" for 1000 watts. No need for correction there. I know bridged means mono.:hmm:
