While I totally understand and appreciate your sentiment, please understand that I don't plan to change or bastardize any existing components or woodwork! I simply want to build a different cabinet to house this great amp. I really enjoy the sealed, infinite baffle sound provided by an 810 fridge, but want to end up with something quite similar in sound, but in a smaller, lighter and lower wattage package than an SVT and 810E. I'm not a big fan of the ported 4x10 boxes and even less fond of ported 15s and heaven forbid the sloppy, floppy 18 inch speakers. 18s are for sub woofers in the FOH sound system and not for an on stage bass rig, IMHO!

You would be much better building a head case for the amp, then use a regular cabinet. It will avoid dealing with leaks around the lid which can be a source of rattle.

If you want to flip, you’ll have to leave room for the head inside the amp. This might mean having to make the top chamber taller.

Just reading through the thread again a thought hit me, yes it does happen!!!!

If anyone is thinking of installing EL34 output tubes in a regular B15 they should think again. The extra heater draw of the EL34, 1.5A per tube compared to 0.9A of the 6L6GC would tax the power transformer way too much.

Sorry folks, for resurrecting this ancient "necro" thread, but there's so much great discussion by lovers/owners of these amps, I figured this as an appropriate continuation. Can anyone provide the outer dimensions of the B-15R? I can't find them anywhere. I'm looking to buy one of these amps and am planning to try something kinda bizarre! I'm contemplating building a new, fliptop, Portaflex style box, configured as half of an 810, with two separate 2x10 chambers. It would seem that with the 100+ watts of the B-15R pushing it, it would be a crushing little (though likely pretty heavy) small club rig. Before I start making any sawdust, I need to get the amp and I will test my theory by running the amp through half of an existing 810E.

It seems that the 4x10s would clear up that bottom end that @Triboost was not fond of and really tighten up the low mid punch and clarity?

Seems like either V4B + 212av or PF50T + 2x 212av’s would suit stage-you better and grabbing some furniture from the flea market to refin would better suit DIY-you better than trying to fliptop-ify an 810.

If you are on drugs and really just want to do it to do it, please be sorta-sober-ish when operating power tools. Measure twice.

Let see if any of these dudes ever made the mods on their B15R. I use the EL34 in mine and prefer it. But it's not like day and night. Especially if you use it in the studio. It is suttle. But better. I also have a Delta pro 15A in mine. I'm considering making a new front so i can try the double baffle. It's a very simple modification. At least for me. I built many houses in my life. So i look at this as an afternoon project. All i need is the plywood.

Anyone else made modifications to their B15R?
