Ampeg B25B value question

First, I'm a guitar player. I have an old B25B and am thinking about selling it. It works fine, except the pots are either scratchy or in a few cases, frozen. The head shell is not pristine, and it's missing the handle. It would be easy for me to replace the handle, and then I'd just be dealing with the bad pots. I opened it up at one point and if I recall correctly, the pots were PCB board mounted, so I didn't attempt to replace them.

Is this thing worth anything? What's the value if it didn't have the pot problem?

I wont speak to value.

But, they are super rad heads, and i know quite a few guitarists that love them.

I have a B25-b 2x15 cab that i FINALLY got to use with the matching head last year... 50w ain't nothin to scoff at through a 2x15!!!


Regardless of worth, i'd fix it up... it really makes a great bass and guitar head.

Guys, I really appreciate your help. thanks. I have a couple of more questions.

1. Is there anyplace on the net I can use to date the head based on the serial number?

2. When I get the pots out, I can measure the resistance. Do you know what type of taper they would be? Is there a schematic available anywhere?

no idea about what taper they would be, but the pot codes are the only way to date 70's ampegs. there should be a 137 which stands for cts, then 4 numbers...the first two are the year, second two are the week of the year.

There is a schematic for a B-25 on here. If that doesn't line up with your amp let me know, the B25 to B25B/V2 split was around 70 or 71 IIRC so if there is a difference between what's there (just listed as a B25) and in your amp I may have a slightly more "up to date" schematic in my book (I say slightly because it's copyright 1972).
