Ampeg B2RE

I, Thinking About replacing my Carvin R600 With a Ampeg
B2RE, the carvin keeps going into saftey mode even after replaceing all cords, I run 2 carvin Cabinets 1 with 1-15" and the second with 2-10" redline Can the ampeg handle it. I play Country in a 4 piece band,

I know a guy who plays in a pretty loud punk rock band who uses a B2RE. Hes been using it for years and just took it on 3 tours. It seems pretty reliable though. I played one once but I don't remember much about it so I can't comment on the tone, he uses a Tech 21 sansamp which sounds awesome.

If you're going to be spending around $600 why not get a
GK 1001 from RMC audio? I was thinking about the B2RE as my first head but everyone here advised me to try out a GK. I really loved the solid state gritty tone and raw power (450W @8ohms, 700W @ 4omhs). Its plenty loud for any situation, I've never seen the peak light blink. Mines been treating me well ever since I bought it :D.

As long as the Carvins are each 8ohms it'll be fine. I dunno if that's what you were asking.

I had a B2R (the 350 watt version that was out before B2RE) and I thought it was quiet... really, really quiet. Sounded great, except I couldn't hear it. I haven't tried the B2RE, though, so definitely give it a try somewhere if you can. Just make sure you get a feel for the volume and whether it'll work for you.

The B2RE into 8 ohms is really much too quiet for loud messy punk/rock n roll stuff like i do...In my experience/opinion...not bad into 4 ohms but Id be wary of getting a new one...I had one of the newer LOUd ones and had two die on me within a handful of gigs so gave up on it...Did sound great though, when you could hear it and before it gave up...

Which is the whole reason that I'm scared to go w/ Ampeg- everything Im interested in has been having problems lately... RayO5421 said it best and I'm thinking very seriously of following his lead: Gallien-Krueger 1001 RB

+1. I also found the B2RE to be WAY too quiet for a loud band. I ended up using mine as just a preamp and running it through a separate power amp to get the volume up. Until I sold it and got...wait for it...a Carvin R600. Mine works great through a 4-ohm 1x15 and a 4-ohm 2x10 (simultaneously).

It just goes to show that different people get different experiences with the same gear - although in our case the difference is that your R600 is broken and mine isn't. But if mine were broken, I would definitely consider replacing it with the G-K, or with a MarkBass, or...(slips into glazed-eye G.A.S. mode...)

Mine was too quiet in 8 ohms. When I went to a 6x10, it was plenty. I sold it because I wanted more headroom.

But, for the money, if I had it to do over, I would have gotten the GK 1001. Much better amp, IMO.

I think the tone of the B2RE is great but the volume lacks so if you plan on doing loud club gigs where you'll rely on your rig to hear yourself then I'd go with something a little louder like a GK 1001.

edit: Sorry nubs, didn't read what you said. +1 to Nubs

i own a b2re and i run it with a sans amp which makes it plenty loud. if i didn't have the sans amp it would definitely not be loud enough. i also have a 4 ohm cabinet.

Gain at the input has nothing to do with how loud an amp is, it just has to do with how soon you will overdrive your preamp. I would imagine you have seetings on your sansamp that make you cut better, but an EQ setting could be duplicated on the amp to do the same thing.

Man, was this thread rescued from like page 20?
