Ampeg Ba110, vs Fender rumble 40

Just to specify, I'm talking about the slightly older model Ampeg not the V2. I've been looking at these two amps for at home practice, and small gigs with a jazz combo. I like the simplicity of the controls on the Ampeg, and the fact that it has both passive and active inputs, as i have a fender j bass and and a SG SR505(5 string) that I would be playing through it. I only hesitate on the Ampeg because I've seen some revisew complaining of loud rattling or humming.

As for the Fender, I've seen it at Guitar Center, and it seems like a nice solid little amp, but it lacks an active input,

I would greatly appreciate any opinions/testimonials/advice you could give me. Thanks

I used to own a BA110 v1 till I got the BA112 v2, then I gave the BA110 to my band's drummer for his Roland V-Drums at home. I loved it. The rattling complaints were limited to the first batch when they first brought out the BA110 3 years ago. The culprit was loose lining inside the cab shaking around. Reattaching it fixes it. Mine was a first batcher and it had it, but it wasn't a big deal to fix. I've not heard it in any subsequent BA110's I've played, and I've played quite a few different ones since then.

Have not played that particular Rumble amp, but I've played the 100 and 500 v3. They make a good impression at the store, but I felt they lacked mids. They're not totally absent, but they're somewhat reduced, and it was not easy to add them back and still get a sound I like.

I have to admit that the ampeg ba-110 is great little combo. Especially with jazz basses. I don't know why but i always liked my jazz bass better throught the ampeg.

I actually own a fender rumble 40 v3 and i am totally pleased. I like the fact that with a push of a button i have access to modern or vintage tone and the bright switch is great for slapping. I would not change it.

Without the vintage button engage it has less mids, hence, the modern tone but when you engage the vintage switch it is amazing.

IMO the Ampeg wont dissapoint you, and is very cheap now.
Loved the sound.
Depending on your budget, you might consider an Ampeg Micro CL (more power, knobs up front, also great tone)
I've played a Rumble once (not sure which one) and I wasn't convinced, but YMMV.

I've never tried either combo. BUT, I can add that with all the active basses I've owned over the years, I ALWAYS ended up NOT using the active input (on a variety of amps). To me they are pretty useless, so it would likely not be a factor in any amp I'd purchase.

Well thanks a lot everyone. It seems I cant really go wrong with either one. The Micro CL is a bit too big for what i'm looking for, and I already have a 100 watt ba115 for now. I think i'll try the 110 first while i can still get a new one from Sweetwater, and if it gives me any problems ill return it and go with the fender.
