interesting stuff... i'm such a goof, and been distracted by new pedal aquisitions that i didn't even notice there WAS a tweeter. i might take a look inside and try disconnecting it if the hiss keeps being annoying.

bugs me mostly when i'm at home practicing.

yep. made in China.

i'm not a huge fan of tweeters, so i'm gonna run it without the tweeter tonight, see how it does.

if i still really like this thing i might try the opamp replacement talked about it that thread JM linked to. sounds fun.

oh yeah.... for a flat eq i should run 3 on the "style selector" switch and put all three eq knobs halfway up?

Basically yes. Position #3 is set to be flat. More probably the perfect neutral center position of the knobs won't be exactly at noon, but you should be close.

For what's about the tweeter hiss, I remember I often read people had fixed that by never cranking the highs above flat. Not sure whether it'll work though, since none of my BA115's ever had any kind of hiss, and so it's probably hit and miss from a BA115 to another.

yeah... i doubt i'll ever be mic'ing this... at bigger venues i much prefer a DI out from the pedalboard (a SansAmp, soon to be VT Deluxeruno is at the end of the signal chain), and i mostly wanted this for a small but useful bass monitor.

took off the cover and it looks like it's just gonna be 3 screws to pop the tweeter forward and disconnect it. gonna try that after werks.

Yeah...as I told you, my BA115 never ever had a simple hiss, perhaps the problem is on earth cable.
I don't like to disconnect the twetter because when doing slap I need to hear the twetter on high freq.

I use all my eqs flat and the switch on position 3 because I use several basses in the same gig and need to split between them without changing the amp, but if you try several configurations through the eqs and the 5 positions of the selector, you'll find a very large and good range of sounds and all of them great!

when i was playing with it at the store i could get some nice tones out of it. but i like to do all my tone shaping on my pedalboard, so i really just wanna run this as flat as possible.

my other (main) rig is a power amp going into some Aggy stuff. modular, head-less approach works very well for me.

just ran it for a full set practice.

that thing is LOUD. more than enough for most places we play. very happy about the idea of schlepping less.

i was thinking about checking out the Carvin tiny 'uns, but i think i'm gonna dig this a lot.

oh yah.... pulled the tweater. like the tone better and the hiss is gone. still some noise at high volumes, but that's the normal.

My USA made BA115 has no hiss whatsoever, even with the treble cranked, and the tweeter is connected. Obviously there were/are some QC issues.

I prefer the style knob on "2" -12dB scoop at 500 Hz. With my RIC 4001 I set Bass 7, Mid 3.5 and Treble 9. With my Warwick Corvette I set Bass 6.5, Mid 3.5 and Treble 6.5. With the mids scooped out like that I do run out of volume pretty quickly in some situations. Style on "3" cuts through much better.

I hated the single top handle too, really awkward. I put on side handles and wheels.

yeah... i love using a progammable preamp DI then running a flat eq power amp. i'm a huge geek and being able to just click thru different eq setups for more gain or more mids or a different bass makes me very happy.

i DO like your wheelie & side grabber idea.

where did you buy your add-ons? what type of caster do you like?

The handles were from Reliable Hardware. Medium Deep Recessed Handle, Black - RH-0515BK. They look real nice and work great.

The wheels are Ernie Ball 6102 Amplifier Casters Pop Out I got from American Musical Supply. I made some wood pieces and screwed them to the back bottom of the amp to mount the wheels because of the cutaway for the tilt back feature. I don't care for and never used the tilt back so no loss for me.

Don't get me wrong.. it was a decen t amp.. and after giving it more thought.. for under $200 you can't beat that with a stick.. Considering the way you will be using it that knob will probably never be an issue... Glad you like it.

haven't played it out yet... just at practice. and it MORE than covers my needs there. good stuff.

just been playing places with shoddy PA support. that kind of gig i feel way better with a full cab.

love this little thing tho.

I've had one of these amps for about 4 years now and over all it has been a good amp. Does mine his...yup, but I find if I keep the treble on 4 it is low enough to be tolerable. This thing has really been my main gigging amp for a while. I have a big rig as well, 4X10 and 500w amp, but just haven't needed it....(um, not too sure if that's a good thing????) I paid $350 brand new including tax from GC, and I think I got my $'s worth so far. I also use a Boss ME-50B in the front end and I think the noise gate and compressor help with the hiss.
