Im looking for either a combo or and head/cab rig that is in a fairly cheap price range (around 2000 aud) but will have a good sound for recording and able to gigs of around 200-400 people. So far ive been using a behringer rig and its not the best sound.

So I was wondering, is the Ampeg BA500 combo any good? Has anyone tried it? Will it fit my criteria? I will probably be adding a 115 cab underneath late on if i do purchase it. Are there any other combos or head/cab combinations that will do better in this price range? Thanks in advanced

Hi,
I've owned the ba500. I liked the tone and power, but it came with a cracked top, so I sent it back to GC. I received another one, but It had a cracked edge, so I sent it back too. The 3rd had a buzzing noise when a note was played, so I gave up and went with an SVT4pro and 410HLF + 115EN.

If you find one not damaged in shipping, you'll probably be very happy with it tone and volume-wise, especially if you add a 15 cab. I was thinking of adding an 18:eek:

Best of luck!
